After securing an overwhelming endorsement from thousands of supporters, the National Democratic Congress is considering a rally to outdoor president John Mahama as the man to beat in the 2016 elections.

Director of the Elections of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo told Joy News the president will be given an opportunity to accept the results.

That opportunity will not be without the presence of the supporters of the NDC, Ampofo told Joy News in an interview, Saturday shortly after the presidential and parliamentary primaries.

The presidential results have yet to be officially declared as collation in all constituencies were yet to be concluded but the provisional results which trickled in from constituencies across the country showed a thunderous approval from party faithful for the president to seek re-election in the 2016 election.

As the sole candidate in the elections, members had to vote either yes or no for the president. And the yes votes were overwhelming.

However, the attempts by national and regional executives to whip all members in line to vote a hundred per cent yes for the president failed as some errant supporters voted no, even if it was insignificant.

For instance in Techiman South in the Brong Ahafo region, a polling station had 265 endorsing Mahama and 10 people voting No against Mahama.

In the Eastern Region, at the RC polling station in the Lower West Akim 200 voted yes and 42 said no to Mahama.

There were 82 members who voted No against President Mahama at Lower Manya constituency in Manya Anglican polling station. He however had 444 yes.

In spite of the few dissents, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo told Joy News the president will be declared the new presidential candidate elect at the party head quarters later.

"There will be the declaration of results at the party HQ here in Accra. Initially we said it will be at the Efua Sutherland Park but later we have said it will be done here.

"The flagbearer elect will be declared and after declaration he will be given the opportunity to make the statement.

"It is my expectation that the party's teeming supporters will want to come and listen to their new flagbearer and president of the republic," he said.
