Voices of the 99 Percent blogtalkradio program entitled "Bullet Points" hosted by Navid Nasr, featured Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire, on Friday August 23. Azikiwe provided updated news information and political analysis of the current situation in the North African state.

On July 3, the Egyptian military seized power from President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood-allied Freedom and Justice Party (FJP). Over the last seven weeks hundreds and possibly thousands have been killed in a military crackdown against opponents of the coup.

Azikiwe pointed out the long time links between the Egyptian military and United States imperialism. Even though the Pan-African News Wire had been critical of the policies of ousted President Morsi, editorially the PANW has rejected the coup and has exposed its pro-imperialist character.

This interview was conducted on the eve of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington held on Saturday August 24.

Azikiwe was in Washington, D.C. and reflected on the significance and contradictions in the 50th anniversary gathering in the nation's capital.
