Detroit to Protest Against Military Interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Colombia, Somalia, Pakistan, Korea and Throughout the World--Money For Our Cities, Not For War!
Commemorating the National Day of Solidarity With the People of Honduras

For two months the people of Honduras have been in the streets to protest the military coup that ousted their elected president. They are being shot down, arrested and tortured, but the protests continue. The Obama administration is giving support and funds to the coup leaders.

At the same time tens of thousands of more U.S. troops are being sent to the growing war in Afghanistan. Deaths of U.S. troops as well as Afghani civilians are going up quickly. U.S. troops still occupy Iraq. Israel keeps getting billions in U.S. military aid to crush the Palestinian people. Pakistan is being bombed by U.S. drones regularly killing many civilians.

President Obama has called for more military aid and U.S. troops to be sent to Colombia to build up a vicious, death squad regime in that South American country and to threaten the people and governments of Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador who are trying to break free from poverty and underdevelopment.

The U.S. military also continues to patrol the waters off Somalia and to control the Somali government with military aid and advisors. The Pentagon recently conducted war games targeting both Somalia as well as Nigeria, a large oil-producing state in West Africa. The DPRK (North Korea) and Iran are still being threatened with invasions by the U.S. military aimed at regime change.

Our demand is: "Money For Our Cities--Not For War! While over $700 billion of our tax dollars go to the Pentagon and the wars, our cities and schools are in decay; we are being put out of our homes by the hundreds of thousands every month; we are losing our jobs, our benefits and our social services through state and municipal cutbacks. This is the War At Home that goes along with the escalation of U.S. militarism abroad.

Join the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) and the Moratorium NOW! Coalition to Stop Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility Shutoffs for a mass demonstration at the entrance of Hart Plaza on Friday, August 28 beginning at 4:30pm.
