Free Mumia Update: SF 8 Solidarity Statement; July 4 Actions

The San Francisco 8 Support Mumia Abu-Jamal

For over 25 years the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police has sought to have Mumia executed. The malicious and vindictive persecution has been a continued battle by the government against a legacy of struggle whose origin began in the Black Panther Party. Mumia had been an esteemed journalist and BPP member, and because of this he became a target of the FBI Counter-Intelligence Program (COINTELPRO). Mumia is innocent

Like many BPP members who were COINTELPRO targets, Mumia has languished in prison, but never succumbed to or been defeated by the system seeking to destroy that legacy of struggle. We all know that Mumia is innocent of the charges lodged against him. We all know others have confessed to those charges. And we all know that his conviction was the result of coercive and perjured testimony, that the prosecution withheld exculpatory materials and that he did not receive a fair trial.

Similarly, the New York 3 and the Angola 3 suffered this type of malicious and vindictive persecution and today the San Francisco 8 face charges that stem from continued COINTELPRO type persecution.

Because we know what truly happened in Mumia’s case, and that there is documented proof that he was a COINTELPRO target, we, the SF8, extend our uncompromising solidarity and support to Mumia Abu-Jamal.

We demand the State of Pennsylvania exonerate Mumia of all charges and release him from prison immediately.

Signed,
San Francisco 8

JULY 4: UNITY WITH MUMIA ABU-JAMAL AND ALL RESISTERS! SOLIDARITY FOR ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS ON JULY 4TH!

ICFFMAJ stands shoulder to shoulder with all freedom fighters: Leonard Peltier, the Cuban 5, the SF8, the MOVE 9; those in defense of Venezuela, Cuba, Palestine; Earth First!; Animal Liberation Front; the Zapatistas; and all those unnamed but known and celebrated. We support the important work of Jericho, recognizing and fighting for all political prisoners, and the International Action Center, uniting global battles worldwide, and all other organizations working for justice.

ICFFMAJ believes in freedom. Freedom for Mumia, and freedom for ALL LIFE! Our job is to reflect Mumia's wishes as we struggle for his release, and as his writings consistently demonstrate, Mumia sees our common enemy, and sees that the fight is universal, uniting us all.

Mumia's case is in its final hour. We can't wait passively for the courts to pass down its decision on his last appeal. We need to keep fighting, keep moving, and demanding his release! But we have to do it together. Mumia's fight is not isolated, it does not live in a bubble. Mumia's struggle, and his ultimate release, is completely and totally connected to all these battles we who believe in freedom wage. Mumia will not come home without the love and support of all those engaged in revolution.

On July 4 ICFFMAJ will be on the streets in Philly, as we have each July 4 since Mumia's sentence was first declared. We need you all there. But don't just come for Mumia. Come with banners for the Cuban 5, come with posters for Leonard Peltier, come with information on the battles for the Puerto Rican Independentistas, come with flags for Venezuela, Cuba, Palestine, and other occupied territories in resistance, come with fists clenched in support of Cindy Sheehan and against this terroristic war, come with tee-shirts recognizing your incarcerated cousin, sibling, spouse, COME in UNITY, SOLIDARITY, against this rotten system!

When: Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at 11 a.m.

Where: 6th and Market Streets, Philadelphia

What: DEMONSTRATE FOR FREEDOM!

If you can't be in Philly, please hold an event in solidarity. July 4th is supposed to recognize U.S. freedom. We all know what a lie that is.

Tell someone else about it! Whether you're in Atlanta, Seattle, or Hong Kong, hold a concert, show a film, have a teach-in, and tell us about it! No matter where we are, if we're struggling for freedom, we're unified.
